i think it has become so big because it is on every corner you could only walk a few blocks and not see the mc. donalds sign.
also people are always in a rush and have things to do and mc. donalds is one of the cheapest and fastest places to eat, and to me the food does not taste bad so if its always around and it wont take anytime out of your day or much out of your pocket why not eat it.
